Tamima Al-Awar Memorial Scholarship Program – This program is a collaboration with another County-wide arts organization, The Focus on the Masters (FOTM). The program was initiated by friends and family in memory of Ms. Al-Awar who as an art student. The program is open to pubic and private high school students who are majoring in the visual arts. Scholarships are awarded to students based on the quality of their artwork and a written statement about the role of art in their lives and their approach to creating art. A panel of judges reviews the artwork and written statements before selecting the scholarship winners. The artwork of the participating students is generally exhibited in the Atrium Gallery at the County Government Center for about seven weeks during March and April of each year. The winners are announced and scholarship money awarded at an evening reception in the Atrium Gallery.
The amount of Scholarship money available differs from year to year, but has been as much as $5300. Applications for the scholarships are distributed to the schools through the County Office of Education and to private schools directly. Press releases also announce the program.
