Ms. Tygell earned her B.A. at CSUN, following her A.A. from LAVC. She also completed the ASL Interpreter program at Pierce College. Deby spent four years as the Director of Resource Development and Special Events for all of the Ventura Boys and Girls Clubs before beginning her teaching career. She taught 4th and 5th Grade students for almost 20 years at Saticoy/ATLAS elementary school, part of the Ventura Unified School District.

Along with teaching, Ms. Tygell oversaw three major mural projects in partnership with VCAC, the Ventura Education Partnership and muralist MB Hanrahan: “I Sari Wa,” which is Chumash for It Will Continue Indefinitely,” celebrating indigenous Chumash and Hispanic cultures; Celebrating Ventura County’s Biodiversity and fragile Ecosystems in four quadrants representing the four seasons with a depiction of Earth and a quote by John Muir connecting Art and Nature; and “Traveling on the Wings of Words,” inspired by student Aldo Garcia’s writing project.

Deby is an ASL Interpreter and volunteers at ARC. She has also volunteered as Treasurer for the Ventura County Surfrider Foundation for 15 years. She continues to carry her father's torch for environmental causes and her mother's for dance. She performs Flamenco, Bollywood, West African, Hula, Irish and Bhangra.
