The County of Ventura Board of Supervisors has approved the Ventura County Arts and Culture Investment Fund Grant Program, the County’s first grant program dedicated to supporting the arts community. The program will provide $100,000 to independent artists and art projects through one-time grants of between $1,000 and $5,000.

This grant program is being administered in partnership with the County of Ventura and the Ventura County Community Foundation (VCCF), which will administer a separate application process for non-profit or fiscally sponsored arts organizations that wish to apply for funding. This page contains information about how to apply for a grant for individual artists or art projects only. Visit the VCCF website for information about how arts organizations can apply for a grant.

Eligibility

Independent artists must:

  • Have a documented artistic work history of at least three years between 2017 and 2023
  • Reside in Ventura County
  • Serve, inspire, or support the Ventura County community

Art projects must:

  • Be led by an independent artist meeting the above criteria
  • Occur in Ventura County

Initial artist and art project eligibility will be determined by Ventura County Arts Council (VCAC) staff prior to application review.

Eligible Use of Grant Funds

Eligible use of grant funds for independent artists include all expenses that support the creative capacity of artists, including:

  • Compensation for artists' time
  • Equipment, materials, and/or supplies
  • The exhibition or performance of work
  • Training/education
Eligible use of grant funds for independent art projects include expenses related to the development and creation of arts and culture based projects in Ventura County, including:

  • Murals and other public art
  • Arts classes or workshops offered to the public
  • Community events

Ineligible Use of Grant Funds

  • Personal income taxes
  • Legal expenses or settlements
  • Personal expenses or other expenses unrelated to those stated above as eligible
  • Expenses for repairs or damages already covered by insurance
  • Reimbursement for past projects
